Growing up a a kid, I remember playing around my grandparents’ sustainable farm in Iowa, finding wild Morel mushrooms, learning about wild game and canning vegetables from the garden. My great-grandparents had a restaurant, so food and hospitality have always been a part of my life.
For 15 years I was a partner and operator of Suze restaurant in Preston Hollow. I also ran the catering from a tiny 500 square foot kitchen, producing beautiful events for fashion icons like Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta and Luis Vuitton and hosted some of Dallas’ most high profile families, including now Mayor Mike Rawlings, Laura Bush, Jim Marooney and Don Henley.
In 2008 I was asked to compete on season 4 of the Food Network’s The Next Food Network Star. I was successful in making all the way through to the final episode, gaining the mentorship of restauranteur Bobby Flay along the way. It was after that experience that I returned to start Taste Studio, expanding my catering business, while exploring options to branch into new endeavors.
In 2012, after having catered the VIP Event at the Dallas hosted Super Bowl, I opened Sissy’s Southern Kitchen on Henderson Ave, a Mississippi Delta inspired restaurant that became known for it’s buckets of fried chicken, Champagne sensibility and Southern charm. Nancy Nichols, of D Magazine, credited Sissy’s with ‘kicking off the Southern cuisine movement in Dallas.’
Taste Studio Events
For over 18 years, I have been been catering cocktail parties, intimate dinners and grand buffets for private clients, luxury retailers, corporate functions and charity fundraisers. With every event, I focus on every aspect of production, from planning, budgeting, menus, table top, decor, beverage and bars, staffing, rentals, logistics and floral, each custom designed to adhere to the individual brand presentation standards of the client.
Our menus combined the comforting flavors of Northern Italy and Southern France with other dynamic world cuisines, using only the highest quality domestic and imported products to create unique, memorable experiences in both taste and sight. And, of course, I planned and executed many a birthday, baby shower, wedding and family events with Sissy’s Delta cuisine, as well.
